At the June ’08 Convention the recommendation was passed to make available $1500 remaining in the Blue Star Marker grants fund and that it would be used for clubs/districts to refurbish original markers. For Highway and Memorial markers the maximum to be granted is $250 and for By-way markers the maximum is $100. Mail the receipts for cost of refurbishing the markers to the Blue Star Memorials chairman, Ruth Angevine, 2047 Robb Rd., Walnut Creek, CA 94596-6223 along with before and after photos. Local labor must be used for refurbishing for this cost as it will cost $750, if shipped to Sewah Studios, the manufacturer. No restoration is offered by the manufacturer for the by-way markers. Refurbishing instructions are available on the CGCI website under Blue Star Memorials. The date for completion is June 1, 2009. Fading markers reflect badly on National Garden Clubs, Inc., California Garden Clubs, Inc. and local garden clubs. Let’s keep the blue stars shining!
