NGC adopted the Blue Star Memorial Highways project in 1946. There are three Memorial Markers, and all are a tribute to the men and women in the armed forces who have served, are presently serving and will serve in the future. The large Blue Star Highway Memorial Markers are placed only on dedicated highways. A second large Memorial Marker, minus the word "highway," was approved in 1996 for dedication at National Cemeteries or V.A. Medical Facilities. The Blue Star Memorial By-Way Marker, approved in 1994, is to be placed in parks, historic sites and civic areas. It bears the words, A Tribute to the Armed Forces of America. In 2004 the addition of state veterans homes and selected cemeteries where veterans are buried was approved for memorial markers. Markers may not bear an individual's name. Dedications are eligible for CGCI B-2 award. State winner forwarded to Regional # 6. (NGC Award certificates for # 29.) Clubs and districts are urged to contribute by budgeting funds for the Blue Star Memorial Fund that has been established to assist clubs or districts needing financial assistance to purchase and/or refurbish Memorial Markers. Make checks payable to CGCI and mail to the Blue Star Memorials chairman.
